Ed Sheeran did not copy Marvin Gaye song Let's Get It On, US jury finds
They claimed that Sheeran’s 2014 song, composed with collaborator Amy Wadge, bore “striking similarities” and “overt common elements” to “Let’s Get It On”.
During the trial, jurors heard from numerous industry experts and musicologists, as well as Sheeran himself. Townsend’s family brought the case against Sheeran, his label Warner Music Group, and his music publisher Sony Music Publishing, in 2017. “The Defendants copied the ‘heart’ of Let ‘s and repeated it continuously throughout Thinking ,” their claim stated, adding that it had been done “without consent, credit or compensation”.
