Looters held aid workers at gunpoint and stole essential food supplies from warehouses, the UN says.

Fighting broke out over a year ago between government troops and the Tigray Peoples' Liberation Front , which dominated Ethiopia for decades and now controls Tigray.

But the rebels mounted a comeback, recapturing Tigray and advancing into the neighbouring region of Amhara. US State Department spokesman Ned Price said the humanitarian catastrophe in northern Ethiopia remains an "absolute priority" for the United States.Media caption,By Emmanuel Igunza, BBC News, Nairobi

Since the beginning of the conflict a year ago, 28 humanitarians have been killed, making the country one of the most dangerous for aid workers, according to the UN.
