SWEDEN'S economy went from being the world's 20th largest before joining the EU in the Nineties, to the world's 23rd largest.

Despite the country’s long-standing relationship with the EU, either as a member or trading partner, Sweden has always been painted as a European outsider.Swedes have long been divided on the issue of further EU integration and public opinion on Brussels has been highly sceptical since membership.
