A twisted killer murdered his girlfriend by using a broom handle to cause catastrophic internal injuries, before telling a 999 operator "I just woke up and my missus is dead".
After carrying out the murder, Silcox called emergency services from a phone box and said he discovered Ms Cowan lying in the bedroom "cold and dead", Cardiff Crown Court heard. As well as her internal injuries, the victim had also suffered injuries to her face. He explained that Ms Cowan suffered from alcohol addiction and lived a “chaotic lifestyle”. She was in a relationship with Silcox and was living with him in Dol Yr Eos, in Mornington Meadows at the time of her death.
"Earlier on in the day I got beat up, she went to see those people and got back. We had a drink and I told her she got to get up and realised she was cold and dead.” Mr Cole said: “The death of Adell Cowan was in a state of trauma and alcohol. The death was described as having occurred in close association with the event of forceful anal penetration and rectal perforation by that wooden broom handle.”
