It is clear that a lot of work has gone into this production
When invited to review an amateur production I can sometimes be apprehensive as quite often the cast and creative teams are everyday folks who give up their time and energy to deliver something that they love. Sometimes these productions can be disappointing, however each year the Ulster Operatic Company pull it out of the bag and it is clear to see why their previous production of West Side Story received an unprecedented nine nominations at the 2022 AIMS awards.
As Juan rises to power, Eva takes the nations heart as First Lady, but quickly her own ambitions and taste for expensive clothing raise questions around her commitment to her husband's political ideology.Casting in this production has been truly superb and a special mention has to go to Caroline McMichael and Karen Hawthorne who played Eva superbly. The vocal range of the entire cast was phenomenal and I was particularly blown away by the ability of the younger performers.
