The National Grid ESO has brought back its Demand Flexibility Service scheme for another year - here's everything you need to know.
Millions of people in the UK can get paid to use their heating, washing machines and other forms of energy during off-peak times as part of a scheme that has returned for a second year.
According to the National Grid, it will run 12 test from now until March 31 next year when the scheme comes to an end. Each of these is expected to last an hour, although it may be longer, the Mirror reports. In terms of the six tests after that, the payments haven't been decided yet, but the National Grid will make a decision in due course. The exact amount you could make from signing up does depend on your individual circumstances and how much electricity you normally use.
The energy company will use this rate to compare the event data collected to work out how much a person can make to reduce their energy consumption during the event window. The National Grid ESO has reiterated that the scheme is all about reducing your energy use where you can and they are not asking people to "go without electricity"
