She recommends people use an obstruction, distraction or loud noises to defend themselves
A dog behavioural specialist has issued key advice that people should follow if they ever find themselves being attacked by a dog. This potentially life saving advice comes after the UK government announced it would be banning the sale of American XL Bully dogs after a string of attacks and fatalities due to the pets.
According to one American Bully XL enthusiast, who spoke to the Guardian last month, these dogs are so strong that "no man on this earth could hold them". To help with the situation, one expert has shared her advice on what to do in the event of an attack.Jane Williams, who is a committee member of the Association of Pet Behaviour Counsellors , has explained there are three key things that could save your life if you find yourself in that situation.
2. Distraction Putting an actual barrier in place may not always be possible, and won't always keep you safe as "a dog can come around the side of it". In this event, distracting the dog may be a viable option to keep yourself, or the person who's being attacked, safe. Physical force may also work as a distraction tool, but this should be used as a last resort. "People do often intervene in these things and are very brave, but there's also the potential for the other person to then become a target," she said.
