But he was part of a star-studded Parma side who were defeated by Dick Advocaat’s Rangers in a Champions League qualifier in 1999. It is regarded as one of the most memorable European nights at Ibrox Stadium. Claudio Reyna and Tony Vidmar were on target in a 2-0 victory for the Serie A side who defeated Rangers the previous season en route to winning the UEFA Cup. Cannavaro's misery was compounded by the fact he was sent off on the night.
