Families have said the £326 cost of living payment “won’t scratch the surface” for those on the bread line
She said that while things had been tough for months, her family’s situation would worsen while the children were away from school over the next few months.
“The Government needs to be addressing this urgently,” she added. “It feels like there’s always something to keep us this country’s dirty little secret. There’s always something more important than people in the complete depths of poverty – and I hate having to describe the way we’re living as that but that’s exactly how we’re living.
“I think the in-fighting is actually quite convenient for the Government. It’s already overshadowing the cost of living crisis,” she told“Some of the language that’s been used over the past few days has been horrific. We’ve already heard comments that people on benefits don’t want to work,” she said, referring to the Tory leadership hopeful“They don’t see the big picture – they go, oh here’s £650, job done. It feels like a begging bowl.
