Neil Bray said he found the villa online and everything seemed fine until they arrived in Alicante to find that he had been conned
A family going on their first holiday in 11 years fell victim to a fake villa scam after arriving at their destination to discover the property didn't exist. Neil Bray, 42, was looking to rent a villa in Alicante, Spain, for his family of six for two weeks in July.
Neil, his wife, Hannah, 38, a support worker, and their four children - Nikolas, 17, Felicity, 15, Leyton, nine, and Bella, eight - set off on their summer holiday on July 24. On arrival, Neil was told his family would be picked up and driven to the villa, but nobody was there to collect them. "I spoke to the guy around a week before and I was saying how much we were looking forward to going on holiday. He was suggesting places to eat and drink and telling me how nice the weather was out there.
Neil came across the advertisement for a villa in Alicante on a Facebook page for Spanish holiday villas in March.
