The sister of a man who tragically lost his life after being found in the River Witham in Lincoln five years ago has set up a petition calling for safety fencing around open waters in the area.
Mike had gone missing after a night out in Lincoln on a Saturday night, and a two-day search operation concluded with his body being formally identified as divers located him in the river. According to data from the World Health Organisation, drowning accounts for an estimated 360,000 deaths a year, making it one of the leading unintentional death causes around.Danielle said:"I started the petition because I really believe there should be a lot more safety measures around open water areas such as the rivers.
