Their annual festive celebration will go ahead this year
Despite rising electric bills, a Nottinghamshire family will still be transforming their home into their annual winter wonderland for two important charities. Every year Tony Swift, 63, a court official who lives in Laurel Crescent, Nuthall, and his family create a breath-taking Christmas display and have raised almost £200,000 for charity since they started the annual tradition 19 years ago.
Over the years the family decided to raise money for When You Wish Upon a Star after meeting a number of children with terminal illnesses they knew or who had visited the display. Tony said: "They take kiddies to Lapland, grant wishes, holidays in Florida, so we sponsor them as well." "If we raise get £8,000 this year that means over the years we have raised £200,000." Tony is looking forward to creating a winter wonderland bigger and better than before now that Covid has settled down, and says the family are already well on their way with about 80 percent of the work being done already.
