Our region's last zoo shut in 1977, but a new animal enclosure could be opening soon
eventually making it one of the north’s most popular tourist attractions and the country’s third largest zoo. But spiralling debts saw the zoo wound up in the 1970s and the park, once described as a 'showground of the world,' closed its gates in 1982.
A new zoo featuring meerkats, flamingos and owls could open in Greater Manchester. Hopwood Hall College created livestock and horticultural zones at its Middleton Campus nearly 10 years ago - allowing it to offer an animal management education course unique within the city region.
