EXCLUSIVE: Former SNP leadership contender Ash Regan said she would vote against any move to expel the party veteran.
Fergus Ewing has been hailed as a "well-respected" member of the SNP ahead of a vote which could see him suspended from the party.
SNP MSPs have been issued with a three-line whip to attend a special meeting on Wednesday which will decide Ewing's fate. Ewing has infuriated some in the Scottish Government following a string of attacks on policy and the powersharing deal with the Greens. Regan, who resigned from the Scottish Government last year over Gender Recognition Reform, has also questioned the future of the powersharing deal with the SNP and Greens."I feel we're in a position where many of the Green policies have not resonated well with the public and our own voters.
