Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service attended the incident in Mount Street on Sunday evening . They were called to the scene at around 5.24pm.
Crews were responding to reports of a fire in the open. One fire engine attended but no equipment was used and they left soon afterwards.A spokesperson for Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service said: "At 17:24, one fire engine from Preston was called to Mount Street. However, the firefighters had no equipment in use and left soon afterwards."
The fire comes ahead of plans to demolish five buildings on the site and create 67 new homes on the site after plans were approved in February 2021. These plans were subject to much scrutiny due to the historical significance of the site. It is understood that the site may even contain unmarked graves. With that in mind, archaeologists were to oversee the work that was happening.
