BREAKING: Police have named seven of the nine people feared to have died in an explosion in Jersey.
MORE :Peter Bowler, 72, Raymond ‘Raymie’ Brown ,71, Romeu and Louise de Almeida, 67 and 64, Derek and Sylvia Ellis, 61 and 73, and Billy Marsden, 62, were among the residents at the Haut du Mont flats on Pier Road on St Helier, which were destroyed in an explosion just before 4am on 10 December.Emergency personnel at the scene The blast destroyed a block of flats
Specialist teams from other parts of the UK, including the Isle of Wight and Hampshire, have been drafted in to aid the response. On Sunday, police said the rescue mission had become a ‘recovery operation’, with an estimated four further residents feared dead.The five people killed are yet to be named by police, but their families have been told.Chief Minister Kristina Moore described the incident as a ‘huge shock’ and an ‘unimaginable tragedy’ for the Channel Island.
‘We will seek experts who are also independent, as we would do with any investigation where there is particular specialisms, be reassured this will be an independent investigation.’ ‘I think following on from the tragedy with the lost fishermen earlier in the week as well, it’s been hard for people to digest.’
