The atmosphere at the annual event was a lot more upbeat than the Conservative Party conference in Manchester last week

Spirits were high at the Labour Party conference in Liverpool this week. It's likely to be the last one before the next general election which the opposition party believes it can win.

Whether Labour candidates in Greater Manchester can sell it to the electorate remains to be seen, but there are some things we know for sure now.1. The party is pumped, but being cautious The general mood among party members was jubilant.

According to the Financial Times, 43 business groups bought exhibition space at the conference in Liverpool - up from 16 last year - while the number of charities and non-profits exhibiting at the event more than doubled to 87 this year. By contrast, the number of business groups and charities buying stands at the Conservative conference increased marginally, from 26 to 28 and 24 to 30 respectively.

However, according to several insiders, those wounds are healing. This bodes well for Greater Manchester where some were concerned that tensions between the two could put the city-region at the back of the queue for investment if Labour wins power.
