Tour de France spectator causes mass pile-up after attempting to take selfie with cyclist
A fan caused members of the Tour de France peloton to crash on Sunday as they appeared to take a selfie., travelling from Les Gets les Portes du Soleil to Saint-Gervais Mont-Blanc.With around 125km left to race, the peloton's progress was halted after a collision with a spectator.
Someone on the side of the road appeared to be trying to take a selfie on their phone before hitting a cyclist. The rider involved was Team Jumbo-Visma's Sepp Kuss, who was sent crashing to the ground as his handlebars were hit. He also went into teammate Nathan van Hooydonck, with a mass of riders behind them also taking a tumble.However, all those who were caught up in the crash were able to continue for the rest of the 179km race.
The peloton's gap from the breakaway riders stood at around 40 seconds before the crash then stretched to over four minutes after.Heading into the final week of the 2023 tour, Jonas Vingegaard of Team Jumbo–Visma leads in the general classification.
