Forgotten corner of Manchester will soon be unrecognisable - with 5,000 extra homes and a new high street
Nearly 5,000 homes will be built in a forgotten corner of Manchester city centre - as part of a huge project to revitalise the area.
Now, as part of the project, developer the Far East Consortium has submitted two planning applications to bring its ambition of the Red Bank neighbourhood to life. Once complete, the projects will provide 4,800 homes, plus commercial and community facilities.Spread over a 30-acre, largely brownfield site, Red Bank is one of seven neighbourhoods being regenerated as part of Victoria North. Others include New Cross, New Town, the Smedley Dip and two areas of Collyhurst.
He added: “This area at the edge of the city centre is a challenging prospect, but these planning applications are part of an ambitious vision for this new neighbourhood and community, bringing thousands of new homes, investment and life to a part of Manchester that has been underused for many years."
That looks at three plots on Dantzic Street, adjacent to the developer’s existing 634-home Victoria Riverside scheme. The idea is to build 1,550 homes, housed in seven buildings varying in height between six and 34 storeys designed.
