Alex Neil has accused SNP party colleagues of 'betrayal' of the community and most vulnerable in society
Ex-MSP and former Scottish Health Secretary Alex Neil has accused his party colleagues of “betraying” the Lanarkshire community and most vulnerable in society, over plans to downgrade University Hospital Wishaw’s neonatal intensive care unit.

Downgrading it in any way would be nothing short of a betrayal of this community and of the most vulnerable in our society.
“Every MSP, MP and councillor who represents a Lanarkshire constituency should stand up and fight for the retention of this unit and the life-saving services it provides and on which their constituents depend”. Campaigners are demanding that the unit is not downgraded. A petition has attracted 16,200 signatures and the race is on to maintain the unit and retain the expertise of the staff who work there.
“They have won awards for their neurodevelopment care and it is a case of within the first 72-78 hours there is as little handling as possible. She said: “It is simply disgraceful that the SNP is ploughing ahead with the dangerous downgrading of the award-winning neonatal unit at University Hospital Wishaw against local and medical opposition.
