The Trump ally lashed out at 'enemies of our Republic' before his surrender - which comes a day before Donald Trump is expected to turn himself in
The political operative and ex-lawyer handed himself in to authorities in Fulton County, Georgia one day before his close allyHe was ordered to pay a $150,000 bond and not to intimidate any of his 18 co-defendants or witnesses in the case, according to court papers.
Mr Giuliani, 79, was at the centre of Mr Trump’s legal team seeking to challenge Joe Biden’s victory in 2020, and Georgia prosecutors allege he was involved in a plan to have Republicans serve as fake “electors” representing the state, falsely certifying Mr Trump as the winner in the state, which in reality Mr Biden won by a slim margin.
He is facing charges of conspiracy to commit forgery and false statements, solicitation of violation of oath by a public officer, andA prominent figure in Republican politics for decades, Mr Giuliani, first attracted attention in the 1980s as a high-profile federal prosecutor, leading the prosecution of New York City mafia bosses under similar racketeering laws to those he now faces charges under in Georgia.
But in recent years, he has faced a diminished legacy defined largely by his entanglement with Mr Trump. He had his New York law license suspended in 2021 for making “demonstrably false and misleading statements,” while disbarment proceedings are ongoing in DC over his conduct while representing Mr Trump.
