They described it as a nightmare
A former staff member at a closed Nottingham care home has spoken of her "nightmare" experience working there. Ashleigh House in Sherwood closed in May after The Care Quality Commission uncovered unsanitary living conditions and a string of safety issues, which the manager admitted put residents' lives at risk.
"I have seen two of them push a man who was using a walker, they said ‘get back in your room,’ shouting at him. I never shouted at them, I treated them with compassion. Residents were not treated well." The former staff member said she had repeatedly tried to quit. “They used me, I kept quitting but they wouldn’t accept it. They kept putting me on the schedule."
In its inspection of the premises in May, Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service cited problems with areas such as fire detection, emergency routes and exits, evacuation, maintenance and staff training. Tom Clark, station manager for fire protection north at NFRS, said they were "still currently engaging with the premises and its owners to achieve compliance".
