Aidan started karate in 1972 after being inspired by Bruce Lee

A former professional Nottinghamshire athlete who turned his hand to coaching has opened up on the successes of his Beeston studio, which attracts sports people from across the world. Aidan Trimble, from Wollaton, became the first European to win a world karate title in Japan and has since used his accomplishments to help train others.

Aidan started karate in 1972 at a start-up in Bilborough after being inspired by Bruce Lee. He got his black belt in 1977 with a Japanese instructor based in Nottingham and first represented England when he was 17 years old. "I had the time to open the centre here, I'm still doing a lot of travelling but I thought it was the right time to have the base here. It's had difficulties over time with the tram works, recessions and lockdowns but we've come through it and I'm glad to say we're really busy."
