'That's important to us, looking after our customers because they look after us'
For eleven decades, Rice's International Bar in the heart of Newtownards has been an institution in the community with family firmly at the centre.
Speaking to Belfast Live, Roisin shared her pride in becoming part of the Rice's International's story ahead of their big birthday celebrations on Sunday. "Margaret was from Carrickmacross and she was a nurse and she came up here and she had the most beautiful personality - everyone in the town loved her and all the customers revered and loved her very much.
Roisin married into the family back in 1990 and went on to have four children - Dermot, Margaret, Katie and Connor. "So we lived above and it gave me the opportunity to have Dad every morning, noon and night, he was always there and if we had lived elsewhere off the property, Dad wouldn't have been as much a part of our childhood.With her whole life tied so closely to the pub, Margaret sees the customers as more than just punters, they are the friends and family who have seen her grow from a child idolising her dad behind the bar to a woman following in his footsteps.
