People are being encouraged to shop local as businesses grapple with rising costs.
Free car parking is being provided every day throughout December in an area of Nottinghamshire in what it is hoped will be a 'shot in the arm' for retailers in the run up to Christmas. Ashfield District Council says that all the car parks it runs in town centres will be free all day, every day in December.
"We are pleased to be in the position to be able to offer this to support our small businesses and town centres. We have fantastic local businesses and our markets in Ashfield and we want to encourage more people to shop with them this Christmas. If we don't use them, we will lose them so please take advantage of this offer in December and shop local.
"In the last few weeks we have lost Wilko, a key anchor store, but by rolling out free parking, all day, every day for the whole of December we are showing our commitment to ensuring that our town centres and retail areas don't just survive but thrive."
