From a Star Wars spin-off to British comedy drama at its best, Lancashire has played a key role in bringing TV shows and films to our screens.
Bacup is the known as the fictional town of Hawley in the Bafta-nominated series. Meanwhile, cast and crew spent several blustery and wet days on location in Blackpool in October and November this year, filming scenes on the North Pier and along the promenade. Key filming spots included venues and exterior shots on Moor Lane, Castle Street, Church Street, York Street and Market Place. The movie was written by Tim Firth, best known for his work on Calendar Girls and is directed by multi-BAFTA-winning Coky Giedroyc.Andor Cleveleys seafront was given a galactical transformation for filming in 2021 and Disney+ viewers of the Star Wars spin-off finally got to see the seaside town on screens this autumn.
The Bay This detective dramas has been filmed in and around Morecambe Bay for several years. Venues such as The White Cross pub can be spotted while a huge chunk of the second series was filmed at the Stone Jetty, the last remaining section of Morecambe’s original Victorian harbour; originally built for railway use back in 1853.
The former working Lee Quarry in Bacup featured in an episode of series six on march 13. The quarry was transformed into a traditional gypsy camp and images taken during filming in April 2021 show Tommy in his iconic tweed suit, dark overcoat and flat cap, brandishing a gun.
