Police are now investigating the sign
Police have investigated after a sign being displayed in Keswick is causing backlash on social media after it says women should keep quiet.
But a sign, which to some, appeared to be associated with the convention - something which has been vehemently denied - has caused a huge uproar. The sign, a quote from 1 Timothy 2:12 in the Bible, says: "I do not permit a woman to teach or to exercise authority over a man; rather she is to remain quiet."
"Replace the word 'woman' with 'Muslim' or 'Jew' or 'black person' and it would be inciting racial hatred. There is no difference, as far as I'm concerned. This is hate speech and it has no place here, or anywhere. I'm appalled. A spokesperson said: "It has come to our attention that someone who regularly 'street preaches' in Keswick town and elsewhere has handed out literature with branding which looks very similar to that of Keswick Ministries. There has also been a billboard message presented that has provoked a negative reaction in Keswick and on social media.
