Talented girls are still having to pay to play football at academies where boys get to train for free while access to top-level football coaching and regular matches have been cut back.
But parents argue that reform of football for girls with ‘elite potential’, inspired by the Lionesses, has actually left some with less access to high-level sport – rather than boosted it. It is understood ETCs will still charge fees – although the cap has been reduced to £120 and hardship funds may be available.that scrapping RTCs has left talented girls who are already in the system struggling to find a club.Rich Hellen and his daughter Tabitha
But Mr Hellen feels that is not the best environment and that ultimately it will be a “step down” from the pathway his daughter had been on previously.“We had an exit meeting and the FA said ‘we strongly advise your girls to play boys football’.
