A routine walk turned into a spectacular one for Wendy Rutter
Appearing in the waves right next to the Mary's Shell sculpture just off the shore in the Irish Sea, was a"magnificent" blue glow - a phenomenon known as bioluminescence. Wendy managed to capture the incredible display on camera, and shared the stunning pictures in a Facebook community group.A bioluminescence is the result of a production and emission of light by a living organism such as marine habitats and aquatic algae, including plankton.
Other commenters were similarly bowled over by the images, with many admitting they were disappointed they had missed it but pleased Wendy had managed to get pictures. Mary's Shell is a large piece of public artwork, part of the Mystic Coast art trail.
