While most of our time with the family is spent at King's Landing with Tywin and his children vying for thehaven't yet taken us to the Lannister's home, but Martin has shared a link to a blog post with a photo and description of the Rock, as well as a hint that he plans to take his characters and readers there in the future.
And, in his blog description of the Lannister homestead, it becomes clear exactly how the family became so powerful and well-defended.Martin explained that all of the little details in the image are exactly as he'd imagined, and also gave his inspiration for the location: the Rock of Gibraltar.
