GROWING GANG violence in Haiti has claimed the lives of over 500 people since the start of the year, according to the United Nations.

The economic, social and political stability in the French-speaking Caribbean country has deteriorated rapidly since the assassination of former Spokesperson for the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Marta Hurtado said: “We are gravely concerned that extreme violence continues to spiral out of control in Haiti.

Ms Hurtado continued: “Most of the victims were killed or injured by snipers who were reportedly randomly shooting at people in their homes or on the streets.
