Ryan Garcia and Gervonta Davis, two of the biggest rising stars in boxing, announced on social media they have agreed in principle to a 2023 bout. Showtime Sports President Stephen Espinoza later confirmed the matchup. Here’s what we know:
Exact date, location and weight has not been made official. Multiple reports say it will be a catchweight bout at 136 pounds in Las Vegas in April.Garcia is 23-0 with 19 KOs while Davis is 27-0 with 25 KOs.It’s been months since a major fight announcement, and we finally got one on Thursday when Davis and Garcia agreed to a matchup. Garcia, 24, is undefeated through 23 bouts and is the former WBC interim lightweight champion. He’s coming off a sixth-round TKO of Javier Fortuna in July.
Both fighters are also among the sport’s most popular. Garcia has 9 million Instagram followers and 139,000 on Twitter.
