It's just the second time since the pandemic students have sat their exams in-person
Thousands of students across Greater Manchester and the rest of the country are opening their GCSE grades this morning.
Today , students at high school will learn how they have done in the tests - which will be the first public exams most have set. This year is just the second time year 11s sat the exams in-person, after testing was interrupted in 2020 and 2021 because of the pandemic. It also represents nearly a decade since GCSE grades switched from A* to G in favour of the 1-9 system introduced by then-Education Secretary Michael Gove in 2014. Much like a C in the old system, a 4 is considered a 'standard pass', which represents the threshold for securing a qualification.Higher grades broadly mirror the old A*-C structure, with a 9 being the best mark available to a student. This morning, thehas reporters stationed at three Greater Manchester boroughs.
