The seven-time champ took full responsibility for the incident George Russell has accepted Lewis Hamilton’s apology after the veteran driver took the blame for their collision at the start of the Qatar Grand Prix on Sunday. The seven-time champion, starting on soft-compound tyres, tried to go round the outside of both Russell and Max Verstappen – who were on mediums – but tagged his Mercedes team-mate’s left front wheel and both cars spun off the track.
’ Speaking to the media, he added: ‘I definitely appreciate him apologising for that. In every incident, it involves two people.’ Mercedes had discussed before the race that Hamilton, on the quicker tyres, would likely pass Russell early on before making a pit stop after just eight laps, but the strategy obviously could not be executed.
