It’s not the funnest thing in the world , but it makes results. “It helps a lot. Three games, three goals , I think, so we have to keep listening to him and do what he says.”“Maybe I am a lucky man because we didn’t get time for a lot of training last season, but we scored a lot of goals. It was the same in my first year with the Italian national team, we won the European Championship — maybe I am lucky.”The level of detail Vio goes into leaves very little to chance.
However, there is a simplicity to the way he explains his work. For him, a good set-piece team is only as good as the sum of its parts, and that starts with the player who first stands over the ball. “We can speak about different analyses, but it’s the player that makes the difference, 100 per cent,” says Vio.
