And there were the risks we took too. Like travelling on mopeds with boys who were too young/too drunk/too irresponsible – take your pick. Or choosing what you think is the “safer” option: cycling home from bars on roads with no lighting, whilst holding a pocket torch. To this day I don’t know how I returned home alive from that particular trip.
My trip last weekend was very different for obvious reasons , but the sentiment was the same. Ladies getting together, laughing until it hurts, late nights, later mornings, deep conversations, silly conversations. It’s incredibly good for the soul. So it genuinely surprised me a couple of weeks ago when a friend of mine in her 50s mentioned she had never been on one. I stopped in my tracks and asked: “Hang on, you did in your 20s though right?” “No, not at all. I just don’t have friends that like things like that.”
It made me smile. Just writing those words is making me smile right now. I believe every woman should at some point in their life have that experience: there’s something unbelievably special about female friendships on holiday, irrespective of your age.
