A Glasgow mum lost more than seven stones after struggling to fit into a dodgem car. Stella Houliotis says her 12-year-old son Krish had never seen her slim before she joined Weight Watchers after doctors told her she was too fat. Now the 56-year-old from Castlemilk says the massive weight-loss has transformed her life and she is now training to help others.

Stella Houliotis says her 12-year-old son Krish had never seen her slim before she joined Weight Watchers after doctors told her she was too fat. Now the 56-year-old from Castlemilk says the massive weight-loss has transformed her life and she is now training to help others.

Because of her medical issues and a family history of heart disease, her GP suggested the WeightWatchers health referral scheme and in September last year she began their eating plan. At her first weigh-in she tipped the scales at 19st 2lb. Just over a year later, she is now 11st 8.5lb. She said: "I never felt comfortable, or safe, getting into seats on things like the dodgems. It was as if I was squeezing my hips in. I also never enjoyed going on nights out because I felt self-conscious."

Her husband Rakesh was never bothered about her weight as long as she was happy but Stella laughed: "He says, 'I've got a new wife'."

Aitken sees this anniversary as a chance to bring the city together, generate pride, and drive real change in the communities. Glasgow 2025 is seen as an accelerator for the future, building on the success of the Glasgow 800 celebrations 50 years ago.
