First Minister Humza Yousaf has outlined plans to provide more funds to people in temporary accommodation after meeting with grieving mums Linda McVean and Maureen Thomson

Appeals made by two grieving Glasgow mums could result in millions of pounds in extra funding made available to fight the homelessness crisis in the city.

The letter sent by Yousaf read: “In our meeting, you suggested that the Scottish Government should provide additional funding to Glasgow City Council. “We are awaiting these proposals and will continue to offer practical support to aid their efforts in this area.” “This year, Glasgow’s share of this £8 million funding is almost £1.5 million. As well as this, our National Mission to reduce drug related deaths and improve lives has seen Scottish Government invest an additional £50 million per year to expand and improve treatment and support services for people who use drugs.

“I’m encouraged to hear that the Scottish Housing Regulator is looking at standards in these awful hotels and I only hope that there is action taken against those which break the rules.”
