Glasgow school pupils have been exploring their love of books in a series of activities to promote reading for fun.

Youngsters have been igniting their literary passions during Glasgow Loves Reading week, a council-run initiative which promotes the idea of reading for enjoyment in primary schools.

Jacqueline Daly, acting head at St Joseph’s, told the Glasgow Times: “A big part of it is encouraging children to read for enjoyment. The activities, promoted by P5/4 teacher Miss Lynch, include having the children take photos of themselves reading outside a Glasgow landmark, and a game called Drop Everything and Read, which has been a huge success.Ms Daly explained: “A bell rings and the children ‘drop everything and read’ for 15 minutes every day.Now in its third year, GLR has received recognition and support from more famous faces too, including gold-medallist Eilish McColgan and Two Doors Down star Elaine C. Smith.
