The Oval hosts poignant moment as God Save the King is sung for the very first time
with the nation in mourning, including the third Test between England and South Africa which was moved from Friday to Saturday.
After it was sung, the stadium burst into rapturous applause, as Charles was proclaimed king in an elaborate ceremony at St James’ Palace.Following the news of Elizabeth II’s passing and conversations over the third Test taking place, Stokes tweeted: “She loved sport, [I’d] be honoured to play in her memory.”
But at The Oval, things went ahead with the match needing to be decided in three days, having lost a day to bad weather and then halting the second as a mark of respect to the Queen.
