The owner of the Laura Ashley brand is in talks about a potential deal to salvage the general merchandise chain, with up to 12,000 jobs at risk, Sky News learns.
A specialist investor in struggling retailers is exploring a bid to rescue Wilko, the ailing family-owned chain which is teetering on the brink of collapse.
Sources said that an offer could involve Gordon Brothers providing funding to the general merchandise retailer to implement a restructuring that would involve significant numbers of store closures and job losses., putting as many as 12,000 jobs at risk. One source said the firm had expressed an interest in partnering with other financial investors to inject about £20m of equity, while it would provide around £50m in debt financing.
