People with symptoms of respiratory infection are being urged to stay at home

Hospital and intensive care unit admissions have increased, according to the latest Covid surveillance report, but still remain low. The Covid-19 hospital admission rate has risen to 3.00 per 100,000 population, an increase from 1.97 per 100,000 a fortnight ago.

"ICU admissions have increased in this week's report, but remain extremely low. We will continue to monitor these rates closely. "This includes those who are aged 65 years and over, those within a clinical risk group, or those who live and work closely with vulnerable people." Dr Meera Chand, Deputy Director, UKHSA previously said: "It is not unexpected to see new variants of SARS-CoV-2 emerge. UKHSA continues to analyse available data relating to SARS-CoV-2 variants in the UK and abroad.
