Green and black wheelie bins across the community will be lifted every three weeks after new cost-cutting plans were formally approved.

As part of the bid to plug a £21million financial black hole, West Dunbartonshire Council's Infrastructure, Regeneration, and Economic Development [IRED] Committee agreed to switch the waste pickup regularity from every two weeks to every three. The move to implement a less frequent waste collection timetable comes after plans were initially drawn up as part of March's budget for the 2023/24 financial year.

A Council motion about the proposal read:"Waste is a key contributor to the organisation’s carbon output figures. "The introduction of a three-weekly residual bin collection would improve the Council’s recycling figures, contributing to the climate change agenda"A three-weekly collection will support this aim."

Now, IRED officials have signed off on the change, thought to come into force in 2024, despite a late amendment by the SNP's Jonathan McColl.
