They slept outside in Elland Road to raise money for homelessness in West Yorkshire
Volunteers braved sleeping out in the freezing cold, heavy rain and 60mph winds as Storm Babet battered the country last week to raise money for charity.
Organiser Bianca Robinson, Chief Executive of CEO Sleepout, said the aim of the event isn’t to replicate the grim conditions those forced to sleep rough face every night. Instead, it is to shine a light on the problem – and to raise much-needed money for those charities tasked with improving the lives of some of the most vulnerable people in the area.
According to the charity Shelter, over 2,100 people in West Yorkshire were homeless on any given night last year. Of those, the charity estimates that 53 people were sleeping rough while the rest – mainly families – were housed in temporary accommodations.
