Reffitt cried when his son testified against him during his trial
He retreated after an officer pepper sprayed him in the face, but video evidence showed Reffitt egging on the crowd and leading other rioters up a set of stairs outside the building.Multiple videos Reffitt took on and after 6 January, in which he discussed planning and bragged about participating in the riot, were used in evidence against him.
Reffitt was reported to the FBI by his son, Jackson, 18 at the time, who told investigators his father had threatened him. He rubbed his hand across his forehead and had a wisp of a smile, says the BBC's Tara McKelvey, who attended the hearing.
