After years of mounting backlash and claims of cultural appropriation, Gwen, 53, has addressed her Harajuku era and revealed that her father spent a great deal of time in Japan as he worked in Yamaha and fed stories back to the singer which intrigued her. Addressing her critics, the Don’t Speak singer continued: ‘If [people are] going to criticise me for being a fan of something beautiful and sharing that, then I just think that doesn’t feel right.

The publication noted that a representative for Gwen contacted the reporter to suggest she had ‘misunderstood’ what the singer was trying to convey, but did not give a statement to clarify.
