Harry Gration's family is planning a second private funeral
Harry Gration's two sons choked back tears as they paid loving tribute to the broadcasting legend at a memorial service held at York Minster today.
Helen Gration, speaking at the funeral, said: “We know that to everyone, Harry was a friend and we know that we shared him with many.Harvey Gration said: “He was always convinced nobody would know him, but even on the furthest reaches, a family holiday in Porto, the quietest island of the Florida Keys, or the northernmost hill of Scotland, there was always a couple from Barnsley, or Whitby, who approached him like they’d known him their whole life. That was dad.
She said: “Having to deliver the news of Harry Gration’s passing to the region was really difficult, but I learned from the best. It’s what Harry would have expected. Get on with it lass, we’ll have a glass of Chardonnay after would have been his mantra.”
