A GLASGOW artist whose paintings have sold around the world says advice from her dying father gave her the courage to follow her dream.

“My dad started the seeds germinating. I remember sitting with him in the hospice and showing some images from the first gallery I was working with, and I saw him gently smiling.She adds: “He would be very proud if he could see me today."Ten years after she took her father’s advice, Alison’s solo exhibition, Summer Palette, featuring a collection of her distinctive still life and abstract pieces, will run at the Annan Gallery from September 2 to 29.
“Grief is not linear, and everyone has had those difficult moments but a daily painting practice has given my life substance and meaning.”She adds: “It’s so tough to make a living while being true to your art. So many artists become despondent - so many galleries are closing, and there’s not the funding there used to be.
