A stunning life not forgotten
More than 5,000 miles away from Lancashire in early 1950, war was breaking out between North and South Korea.
Gordon Yates was born in Bamber Bridge in February 1920 and was a casualty of the Korean War, which was fought between North and South Korea from 1950 to 1953. Stuart said: "Just before the Covid pandemic I was researching local connections to the Korean War ahead of the 70th anniversary of the start of the conflict.
Stuart then found that Gordon had attended St. Saviour's School in his hometown, before joining Leyland Motors as an Apprentice Engineer. It was on November 11, 1938, that Gordon joined the Royal Artillery and served throughout the Second World War in which he received a Mention in Despatches - when a soldier is mentioned by a superior officer describing a gallant action.
