The pub which started out life as an old corn exchange now features a larger-than-life mural of Winston Churchill

An 130-year-old pub in Cheshire has reopened following a major refurbishment - and its exterior now features a giant mural of Sir Winston Churchill.

The mural of the former Prime Minister nods to the pub’s history and earlier links to the politician's speech on the balcony in 1945. The statesman is depicted smoking a cigar, alongside one of his famous quotes, which read: “If you’re going through hell, keep going.”The new Churchill mural is just one new addition to the historic Sandbach boozer, which has been owned by Robinson’s for nearly 100 years.

Meanwhile, the Victorian-hand-painted signage and traditional gold leaf window lettering give some clues to what lies inside. Interiors have been designed with a British mid-century era in mind, while columns have been added to the main bar area stylised with cast iron Corinthians capitals and floating poser tables.

"It’s been amazing meeting new customers as well as old. We’re also excited to launch our food menu this Thursday, with dishes such as homemade sourdough pizzas, kebabs, smashed burgers, a soft-shell crab burger and 13 small plates to choose from. We can’t wait for everyone to try them."
